This is for the Craftsy free Block of the Month. The first two blocks won't have much of the background color - but a couple of the blocks, if what I saw in the intro video is accurate would have a fair amount of the background color.

With those two as choices, I would go with the cream. I did a BOM a few years ago and waited until I got all the blocks to figure out the background fabric. I actually based it on the boarder fabric that I used. I ended up choosing a light teal color that worked with all the blocks and there was a variety of colors in the blocks, like you are doing. What I would suggest is to think about how you plan on finishing the top and if you are adding any boarders. If so, try a light color from the boarder to tie everything together. The background fabric choice at this point might surprise you, like it did me. Best of luck and can not wait to see it finished.

I like the yellow best. The tan is a ho hum fabric - my opinion.

I vote for the cream, but also like the yellow. Just depends on what you're going for. guess that wasn't much help.

first of all, let me tell you i wouldn't use cream, ecru, beige, off-white or any neutral of that type with these hot, bright, colorful palette... it just doesn't fit... now that i got that off my chest, i'm sorry, but i wouldn't use them for anything else either... you will have to decide what looks good to you...none of us can make these choices for each other... here's a picture that will give you a clue for my color choices...PS...that thread is variegated in the same hot colors...

I find the cream too boring and the yellow too bright, I am thinking a warm brown would be a better choice.

I think it depends on how you want your quilt to look. I really like the cream as then I see all the other colors. With the yellow being so bright, all I see is the yellow.
