You sound just like me I cringe at the thought of following directions, I am much more the fly by the seat of my pants, or dance naked in the moonlight type! lol
Jan - it was sewn together perfectly, except the middles weren't matching up! It was too bulky!
After investing in about 1000 safety pins I have bowed down to following the instructions - not something I am fond of doing, which is one of the main reasons I don't usually buy patterns LOL

There are many patterns that allow you to improvise and do things another way but Judy Niemeyer Quiltworx patterns are not among those. That is why she has certified instructors and certain patterns are only available when you take the class.
My first Niemeyer quilt was not nearly as complex as this one (Agave Garden) and I read through those instructions at least 4 times before making my first cut. Saved a lot of frustration!
Looks like you are on track now. But word to the wise is to not improvise on Quiltworx patterns.

Feline Fanatic - yeah, I learned that right quick!!! I'd figured since I had made the double wedding ring, it couldn't be that much different hahahahahaha the joke was on me! But, at least it was early days!
And I keep reminding myself that I this was supposed to be my challenge for 2017 ... and that I was supposed to take the year to get it done! Patience is not my strongest point, but I have been learning to acquire it with this pattern.
Again, it's not hard at all, it's just very tedious and precise!

Here's my progress to date ... I thought I needed 7x7 squares, but when I put it on my bed, it came down too far (almost to the floor) When you have a cat and a dog and a parrot, NOTHING should touch the floor LOL ... So I took it down to 6x6, but what I am going to do is finish the stars on each side, and then add about 3-4 inches for a border all the way around, and then bind.
