Barefoot Quilters
#165
I'm another barefoot sewer but I don't even walk to the ironing board without slipping my Birkenstock back on. I had Plantar Fasciitis and had steroid injections in both heels, so I never go barefooted but cannot work the foot control with shoes on. My cousin was a diabetic and once stepped on a threaded sewing needle without realizing it. Didn't know until she found the thread coming out of the bottom of her foot--the needle had alread migrated in completely. So, if you have diabetes, please be careful walking around your sewing area barefoot!

I have never sewn barefoot before. I'm going to try it. I sew with my slippers on. They are soft, not hard soled. But I am going to remove my right slipper and see how that works. I also use my toes. If I use my whole foot, my machine takes off like crazy. I can't control the speed with my whole foot.

I prefer sewing barefoot or with a sock. I've had to change using the controller from my right foot to my left due to ankle surgery, and if I wear a shoe things get a little out of control. So I use my left toes and have just the right touch and control I need.

Always barefooted or socks! I had plantars faciitis (I know that isn't spelled right!) a couple summers ago so wore shoes with orthotics inside and I hated sewing with them. I always ended up taking them off!
