Bargello quilt

Bargello quilt
This is my first attempt at a bargello quilt. I'm unsure of the next step-- do I need to add a border or would it look good if I just do a binding? What color would you suggest for border and/or binding?

I dont' think it needs a border unless you want to make it larger. As for binding you could pull out any of the colors or use black or white to frame it. Great job on it, I love the rainbow look!

Borders "contain" a design. While I am a huge fan of borders to frame most quilt designs, Bargellos are the exception.
To me, Bargello patterns inherently resist containment. They are a snapshot of a pattern that goes on forever.
If I were you, I'd add nothing more than a binding that doesn't call any attention to itself. FWIW, I've made ~10 Bargello quilts, and that's how I've finished them. No regrets!

I just flipped through 2 of Eileen Wright's bargello books to see what she used. Some had no borders but others had a narrow border of brown or green or picked up the color she wanted to highlight in the quilt--such as purple. In your case I'd preview a bit of that dark blue in the upper right corner or what about a deep brown-red that's in the center but even darker? Personally, I like a border on the quilts I make as it frames the work and gives the eye a place to stop.

It seems that no border is what everyone else thinks best-I think so also. I really like your quilt very much. I know it is more work, but I would consider a pieced binding using the major colors from the edges. That would allow the concept of infinity to continue.
