bargello quilts
I see these at all the quilt shows and they are stunning,. I want to learn to make them and just the easiest to get started. Are there any suggestions.

My suggestion is to check with your local library. They have so many books available, and you don't have to put out any money if you are curious about something and want to learn more! Your local tax dollars are at work for you in your library, so take advantage!

Just took a class at my LQS; made a bargello heart wall hanging a couple of weeks ago & really enjoyed it. Just ordered Dec La Table kit from Connecting Threads because it looks do-able

I've made 5 or 6 bargello quilts in the last year or two - even tho I was a beginning quilter! I took a class at Quilt University, but I think they've gone out of business. That said, I've purchased and made a couple of quilts from Eileen Wright's books. FABULOUS results! I recommend both the bargello technique and Eileen's books!

I too recommend Eileen Wrights books. Since its a method that is different. Take the time to read the method instructions a few times to let the method concept absorb. It took me a bit to get the concept of cutting the strips sets in tubes.. then unsewing a seam to get to the color placement. ... Go slow at first... your speed will increase naturally as you gain confidence in the method. They really are not hard ... just a different method. Fabric selection and placement in the strip sets is the critical part.

I Love Eileen book but I think that the Twist & Turn may be a little hard for a first quilt. A good basic book is called The Bargello Quilt Book by Piecemakers. I have seen a copy being sold on this site and also on eBay. I would suggest to make the lap quilt.

I'm taking a class at our local quilt shop to do the Bargello Heart.
I had my first class on Tuesday night and next saturday (16th) will be going for the full day.
As I'm pretty confident with my 1/4 inch seams, I'm not doing the basic one but doing a baby size (smaller sizes, accuracy a must!). I don't have a baby in my life but it's a wonderful size for a wall quilt.
Check out your local shop b/c learning together with others is so much fun, and you get tips and see what works and why, etc.
