    Default Basting/sandwiching with glue

I have read many times about using glue to sandwich quilts before quilting. How do u put it on , how much do you use, thin layer , thick and in how big of an area do you put it? Been wanting to try and I have two quilt tops I am in need of finishing and thought I'd try this! Thanks for all your help again

Someone did a picture tutorial on QB showing putting the glue on. Try looking for it on QB tutorial section.

I did this last week on a lap quilt. I put the glue on in thirds and just did a bunch of swirly loops with the glue. Worked great!

I've done it with the last few quilts and love it! I have a couple tips for you.....you don't need a fine tip or the fancy (and expensive) "basting glue" - Elmer's washable school glue works just fine and washes out completely....you can quilt through the glue spots, even where it globs coming out of the bottle....this isn't a technically precise operation....I hold the bottle above the quilt and squeeze while moving quickly, trying to get my glue lines about 3-4" apart, adding a glue line close to the edges....don't forget to put the glue on the batting, then smoothing the fabric onto the batting (you never get wrinkles or puckers that way).....have fun!

I am finding that with a polyester quilt batting I am needing more glue! I just did my charity quilts for the year and I used polyster batting on 4 of the 6 and I should have used more glue - I am not having any trouble FMQ just it couldhave been a bit more secured. I have done 14 double sized quilts or larger and haven't even used a 1/2 of a gallon of glue so so about .50 cents a quilt to sandwich. Love to save money. Also I amglue the backing to the batting let is sit for a few hours and then flipping it over and using the glue on the batting to secure the top! Elmer's Wshable School Glue by the gallon is what I am using
