Carrie, I never looked at them before either, because some of the ones at JoAnns are 12.99 a yard, too much for me! Turns out they are CHEAPER at my LQS!

Absolutely they are cheaper at an LQS and better quality too. When I saw the ones at Joannes I couldn't believe what they were charging for them and not as fine quality as what I get from Hoffman and Tonga (two of my favorite batik makers).

I love batiks too! Have yet to make my first quilt using just batiks, but have used some in landscape blocks.

NOW, I am checking them out in the Connecting Threads catalog......oh, no, new obssesion??????????[/quote]

A CONNECTING THREADS catalog came yesterday. I know I don't need one FQ of each of their batics but I may need to get them anyway.

I never really paid much attention to batiks, until recently. I am in a round robin and the center I received was made with batiks, it was beautiful. So I had to go shopping to find a border to add to it.
Thank goodness I was the first one to add to it since the price at Joann's was 12.99 yard. After I added my border I really liked it. So I'm thinking I just might have to get some batiks and do a quilt(when I can find them on sale that is.)

Sewhappy, our LQS has the batiks for cheaper than JOANNS! Ours had some for 8.50 a yard, and the FQ's were on sale, too!

Now, when you are ready for a batik back for that quilt, DON'T use regular batiks!! The weave on some is really tight, and you end up breaking the threads instead of stitching between the threads. Sewbatik.com has 108" wide batik fabrics that are made with blank fabric that has a normal, quilt-shop quality weave. They quilt up beautifully!!

Full disclosure: I am a Longarm Associate for this company, but I wouldn't do it if I didn't LOVE their product!

I order the the sampler charms so I can see the colors better. Then when I am making a quilts and order yards I can match better.

Thank you . I am new here and love the link!! I love batiks too. Don't know if you all have a store named MARDENS ...it is a store with many things in it. Most of their fabric is good stuff. Some excellent. They have some batik too but not very much.
