I was just talking to my best friend that I quilt with about batiks. She loves them and I hate them. Like DonnaC they do not inspire me at all. First I do not like colours blended together and I am very traditional and like quilting historical quilts. Batiks just don't float my boat - but some of the quilts are stunning!

I have spent quite a lot of time in the fabric stores looking and touching them, hoping it was something I could overcome. Hope!!! SO,I was just wondering if I am in this boat alone or if others are sinking with me? Ha Ha.
have to agree with you. i don't even like the feel of them.

They don't impress me much ,but was tempted and NEVER again, when washed/ironed they stretched SO MUCH that I thought I was crazy and had to use tape measure to confirm I wasn't .

Depends on the batik. I do not love muddy ones. Love intricate ones with rich coloring. Do not love batik prices.

I wasn't too crazy about them at first but I have discovered new things that I can do with them. So, I'm like some of the rest of you. I like it all!

I didn't like batiks for years. Then I started liking them and now I'm hooked. Tastes change, so give it some time. No big deal - no one said you had to like them!

Love them AND hate them. Love the rich colors and hate the price. (of course there isn't many fabrics I don't like) grin. For applique they make beautiful flowers.

I love them. Too bad a whole thread needed to be started about hating something. We all have our dislikes, why not focus on our "likes" instead, in a public forum?

I'm in total agreement on that! The new MOD prints are just way too gaudy for me and the colors aren't particularly appealing. When I see a quilt made with a lot of those fabrics, it seems like the prints are way too busy, run all into each other, and the block pattern is lost in all the busy-ness. I'll stick to much simpler prints.
