    Also avoid batting made with bamboo for baby quilts. Another quilter told me it is flammable. I used it in one of my queen size coverlets and it drapes nicely. I would be cautious about using it for children, though.

    I like to use flannel for batting as well, sometimes just use flannel as backing with no batting at all. I would definitely recommend prewashing the flannel if you choose that option. I don't normally prewash anything, I know--living on the edge, right? But I make an exception with flannels because they shrink so much--and don't always shrink evenly in length and width.
