I hate polyester (as my mother so lucidly puts it "sweatbag!" ). Anyone tried bamboo batting for a child's quilt?

What do you all think about using fleece as a batting? I'm thinking it would be very warm (probably too warm for some), drape nicely and be very light-weight.

Machine Quilters love Warm & Natural, Hand Quilters hate Warm & Natural. It wears well. I bought a bolt at JoAnn's.
It's cotton so it shrinks a bit. I don't prewash fabric. I prefer to save the first wash until after the quilt is completely finished. The whole thing shrinks together and buries the quilting stitches just enough to make it crinkle like a beautiful old hand made quilt. I use my quilts. I don't hang them on walls. Warm & Natural is a bit heavy for the wall. I made my 4 grandkids quilts with Warm & Natural. They have been washed many times in the last 7 years.... still looking good. I have 2 quilts on the sofa. One has Warm & Natural, the other Hobbs 80/20. My hubby likes the light weight of the Hobbs 80/20, I prefer the warmth of the Warm & Natural cotton. They both wear very well.

The Witchy Sue quilt has polyester batting, much easier to hand quilt.

I was told that Wool is great for hand quilting, but it shrinks a lot. Have any of you used wool batting? I'm curious about the shrinkage. I bought some for a hand appliqued quilt, planned to hand quilt it. But I'm afraid of the shrinkage.

I am not sure about batting, but here is a hint. When making a baby quilt, buy twice as much fabric as you need & save the extra to repair the "blankie". My dm had to repair one of my dgd blankie 3 times, the third time, she had run out of fabric & finally, cut out a small piece of the blanket (a piece with no holes) and put in a full size quilt for her. She was 18 at the time and still slept with her blankie, just didn't drag it around any more

I use Matilda's Own wool batting for all my quilts - including baby quilts - and it washes and wears beautifully.

I like warm and natural. Poly is nice a puffy but for me it is hard to keep in place when quilting. I have used spray but that doesn't work so you have to baste well and pin. That is just what I found.

Depends on the poly. Quilter's Dream poly behaves just like cotton.

I'd vote for warm and natural too! I've tried full poly, but after a few year (and many washes), I haven't been thrilled how it looks!

I prefer natural over synthetic especially for babies and children, so the Warm and Natural batting is my choice. I've never had a problem quilting it, and the quilts have held up well.
