    I made a cotton top, with flannel back and a poly high loft batting. Thats what DH wanted - that's what he got. and MAN do you sweat with it. But he likes it.

    I use a single layer of flannel as batting. they quilt up great and are soooo supple and pliable.

    How about putting fleece on the back? Then you probably don't need a batt unless you want it really, really warm. That is what I did and I really like the fuzziness of the fleece.
