Batting for Flannel quilt?
I just finished my first flannel baby quilt for some time. My question is what type of batting do you use. If the top and backing are flannel, do I need to use any batting? If I need batting what type do you use so the quilt does not get too heavy. Like I said it has been a while since I made a baby quilt and I really cannot remember if I used batting or not. Help me!

I always use a batting in my baby quilts- I love for them to be lofty, soft & snuggly. I generally use hobbs 80/20 ~ it is lightweight but has nice body/loft. a lot of people choose to not use a batting in flannel quilts- it's a personal choice- and I would also consider where the baby is- cold climate? batting; warm climate- maybe not. (I always use batting- just don't much like flat quilts- might as well give a sheet *just me*)

I really wouldn't use any unless the recipient is in a very very cold climate like maybe the north pole The one I did I just used flannel for the batting and its almost too warm. The small lap quilt is also kinda heavy in a comforting kind of way.

For me, the best batting in a flannel baby quilt is ... flannel!
You can quilt it as far apart as you like as it's a woven fabric.
It's light weight but warm.
Best of all, it's soooo soft and supple ... the nicest drape you'll ever see. No stiffness to it all so it can wrap around baby nice and snugly.

I didn't put batting in a flannel quilt once and have regretted it ever since. I love the top, but without batting the quilting is just flat looking. Since then, I use Dream Cotton Request as a batting with flannel. It is their thinnest all cotton batting.
