I don't see any problem using the towels. Anything for padding that is 100% cotton should work just fine.

There are now a couple of special battings called "Warm-n-Zap" by Pellon or "Warm Tater" by Warm n Natural. I would think a towel would get soggy from the moisture.

Whatever you use it has to be 100% cotton--the fabric, thread and batting.

I wouldn't think the towel fabric would be any worse than the fabric or batting.

Insulbrite is good for potholders but NOT for anything used in a microwave.

the insulbrite has metal in it. it will spark in the microwave. others have already stated that. you must use 100% cotton throughout. poly thread might melt.
