Default Batting for microwave bowl holders

Have any of you used old bath towels as batting for a microwave bowl holder? I changed colors in the bathroom and have several older cotton towels and rather than use them for rags I wondered how they would work in the bowl holders. I have had a request for some. Sharon

I have used them for potholders - If they are 100% cotton, I see no reason not to use them.

Thanks Bearisgray. That was my thought also. However I wasn't sure if the special batting had some heat absorbing qualities that I wasn't aware of and needed to add it.

Definitely Do Not Use Insulbrite in them.

I only warm my bowl of food and then put it into the holder. Old terry cloth would be great for keeping the food warm. It also makes good padding for pot holders and table mats. I prefer it to the insulbrite, since you need additional batting anyway.

What is your reason for not using Insulbrite if I may ask?

Insulbrite has a silver metallic backing which will ping if you microwave it.

    It should be Insul-Bright

    https://warmcompany.com/products/warm-home/insul-bright

The following one puts the "do not use in microwave" in capital letters and red print.

    https://www.kalquilts.com/W3005/Summ...-15-metre-roll

The reason why is that it contains reflective mylar - which is a reflective metalized polyester film - which does not behave well in a microwave oven.

There shouldn't be any problem, if they are 100% cotton. I would cut it to just meet the stitch line because turning it inside out with the 'batting' in the seams could be difficult. I usually cut my batting smaller because it will be caught in the topstitching and quilting, but the lady who taught me how to make them (she is 80 yrs old!)puts it all the way to the edge, turns and topstitches thru everything! I am more than impressed by her skills.

The towels all say 100% cotton on them. I am going to make some using the towels and I also had a nice on-line coupon including $3.00 shipping from Joann's so ordered some Warm n Zap. I also have been told to make the batting smaller because of the turning issue. Thanks for all the expert advice. I need to hunt up some fabric and get going on these.
