All my batting scraps get cut up or pieced to make a lap quilt.

I do a lot of quilt-as-you-go and Reversible Quilts (see Sharon Pederson) and use tons of 13 or 7 inch blocks. Anything smaller gets sewn together until the piece is large enough for a lap quilt. I only make one wall hanging a year, I think, so would otherwise never use up the mounds of batting that accumulate.

I didn't originate the idea, but it does keep my leftover batting from ovewhelming me!

BTW, by doing this all at once, I discovered that the original Soft and Crafty ultraloft (for tying quilts) had been cheapened. The original stuff WAS 3/4 inch thick while the current stuff never measures even 1/2 inch. Really irritating.

I bought the iron on tape and it works great. Need to get all my scraps organized. A rainy day today so maybe I will get that done plus cut out fabric for a future project and then do some quilting on a pinned quilt. Need to get off the board

As for those times when there isn't enough batting at the end of a quilt...the tape works great! I grab a slice of batting from my corner and fuse two together....not sure how I made it before the fusing tape...it was a nightmare. I bought a cordless steam iron and that has also made fusing the tape to the batting a real breeze.

Something else to add to the bucket list. For now, I've been putting the leftovers of one piece of batting rolled up back into the bag and secure it with a rubber band. I use a wide tip marker to write what is left in the bag. Then I store it on the highest shelf in two closets. When the scraps get down to strips I throw them in a huge shopping/gift bag. I used to cut them up into 5 or 6 inch strips for 6-hour quilts, but now I don't cut until I have a need.

I've only pieced batting once. I love your method. Thanks.

I use small scrap pieces as stuffing when I polyfil a pillow and use those scraps in the middle of the stuffing. There have been some really great ideas you all have come up with. That's why I like this board so much.
