I guess not, that never crossed my mind or caused a problem so far. The LA that has quilted a few of my quilts doesn't do anything but layer the two battings together. When I quilt at home on my sit down machine I use Elmer's School glue to hold the top to one piece of the batting and the back to the other batting I then lightly glue the two pieces of batting together. Nothing moves or shifts.

I purchase Warm and Natural from my local JoAnn's when ever I get a really good coupon. I buy the biggest cut I can get and then save if for future quilts. My local shop has Hobbs, but I do not like it any better than W & N. Hobbs is never at a price less than W & N. I have not tried mail ordering my batting.

I wait for sales/coupons at JoAnn's, and have purchased online as well. When I did a lot more quilting than I do now, I used to buy the box of king size Warm & Natural from Hancock's of Paducah, as it was a good price; but I haven't ordered in a while. I usually just buy it on sale, wherever that may be.

I've never done 2 full layers of batting, but I've heard quilters talk about doing that. Heather Thomas uses Hobb's Wool as her top layer for definition and 80/20 below that. She pin bastes so I don't know about the 505.
