    Default Batting

Our guild just ordered an entire roll of batting for charity quilts for our local Head Start. One of the senior members has a wholesale # and only paid $150.00. I realized that I'm spending a fortune on batting and it seems like the time to take the plunge.

Question how wide and what loft would you recommend?

108" wide a great size because it can be cut into several different sizes for everything from baby to lap to king.
My guild has bought both Hobbs brands and Quilters Dream on rolls.

We have bought batting for our charity quilts from Wal-Mart. It is called Pellon Quilter's Touch 100 Percent Polyester Batting, 60" Wide and 20 yards for $41.00.

My sister and I go in together on Warm and Natural. I love the low loft, and firm feel of it. She always seems to find a lovely price, and it holds me for several years. It is, I think, 96 inches wide, but that is fine for me, as most of my quilts are lap size.

There is a store in our area that does upholstery(had to look up the spelling on that one)and they not only carry foam, they carry hobbs batting for people. A wholesale number is not needed. You may want to try at those types of stores.

I wait until Hancock's Fabrics has a sale on batting and as preferred customer I can use my coupons which makes it less than $100 with free shipping. I buy the Warm and Natural which is 90 inches and 20 yards. You can buy it from the website and they will deliver it to your door. It ships in a box (plastic wrapped inside) which stands up nicely in the back of my closet. Ive ordered off the web several times and the delivery was fast. I have picked it up at the store but I hate loading in in the car and they take it out of the box, which I'd rather have for storage.

You can get a roll of W&N when on sale at your local JAF. I prefer Hobbs 80/20. Use to be able to buy a roll wholesale but P&B closed the local office located in Orange County CA.

I keep two rolls on hand at all times . . .Hobbs 100% cotton in white and Hobbs 80% Cotton 20% wool. I prefer the latter and even used in my my most recently finished quilt with a white background.
