I love Warm & Natural for table runners. It gives the runner a nice padding with substance. I've never had a problem with something tipping on it. Preshrink following instructions with the batting. (Soak for 20 minutes with a little soap. Rinse several times. Put in dryer or air dry for 24 hours.) It DOES shrink. Preshrink you fabric, too! Batting and fabric won't both shrink the same amount, so it is necessary to preshrink both. (I've tried preshrinking Fairfield cotton batting sold at Jo-Ann's. DON'T do it! It doesn't hold up and leaves a mess in the dryer.)

I've also used fusible fleece - flatter than most batting. I like it because in table runners I don't usually do a whole lot of quilting (much less than I would on a quilt-quilt).

I use only cotton batting for everything I make. If I want it thicker I just double the batting!

It's called Insul-Brite. I use this in pcs. where warm/hot dishes may be set on them. For regular tablerunners, I use W&N or the thin batting from Wal Mart. I like them with a little body & things can be set on them safely.

I have used pellon for placemats or table runners. Not too thick and is smooth. They have the plain or fusible kind - also have different weights or thicknesses.

I just use an old mattress pad. It adds some stability and not a lot of puff. Placemats I use fusible fleece. :-D

I generally do not use any type of batting, especially if the material is of good quality, that is suffecient.

I sometimes put flannel (pre-shrink) or thin cotton batt.

I have useda heavy stablizer and it works well. Washes up well. I really do not like the thickness of batting, because some runners I leave on. When there are dishes they do not sit evenly.
