    It is not for threading needles, it does help keeping thread from knotting as one hand sews...but the unwritten rule of a piece of thread not much longer than 18" really helps too...it seems too much longer than that and knots will form as the thread twists from the stitching.
    BTW- when one runs the needle quickly thru ones hair to make the needle slide thru the fabric easier (as per Amish) there is really no fear of getting oil on the quilt......

    I would not hand sew without it! In a pinch I've run my thread over a white candle when I misplaced the bees wax. It works just as well.

    I have used it for years. Just bought my third one - first ones is long gone. Plan aon having one upstarrs and one downstairs in the sewing room.

    I use Thread Heaven. I have also used beeswax. Thread Heaven doesn't dry out. Both work great.

    I would not hand sew without it. Been using it since I was eleven. That is the benefit of having an older person to teach you to sew!
