I wash all of mine, but especially a baby quilt. Think of how many times you lick your fingers to line up pieces of fabric...i always laugh that a finished quilt must have a quart of spit in it.

If it's a quilt which has taken me a long time to complete, yes I soak it and line dry it. But I prewash and shrink all my fabrics before I use them in the construction of a quilt, so the last baby quilt I made didn't get a soak before gifting. I only had a month to make it and there was no time, either for a soak or for it to get dirty during construction.

always wash them - I wash any quilt that I am giving away. Not only do I like the way it looks and feels, but also an opportunity to make sure everything is holding together the way it should.

I'm an "always wash"er too. I figure it's my last double-check before gifting it to make sure all my seams are sound. Plus...I have two very fuzzy cats and I'm SURE there is cat hair on there, even if I can't see it.

I also want to give it pre-crinkled, so people don't put a nice flat quilt into the wash and have it come out looking so much different.

Funny, as I read these posts, because I never wash. I don't believe the quilts I make are really dirty. I just give as is and let them wash when necessary.

I would always wash anything for kids! Mothers of young ones have enough to do already and kids are impatient to get whatever is sent/given to them.

I always wash, both to make it clean and also to make sure it doesn't bleed. Besides, then it gets all crinkled and comfy!

I wash to make sure any chemical whether human or manufactured are out. Plus I too have lots f dog hair almost everywhere except the laundry room,so it's best to package them up in there. I also use my regular detergent and let the family know what's been done and how it needs to be cleaned

I wash them all. I use warm or hot water and color catchers. I put them in a hot dryer too.
