I do not wash anything until the quilt is complete. I press the line out of it, never cut anything until I have a specific pattern.

I don't pre-wash. I do spray with sizing before cutting. I wash all my quilts when finished and before giving.

I am an OLD person who is relatively NEW at quilting. My online gurus say "YES" to all the above.
Years of sewing taught me to prewash and to partially line dry before aligning warf & weft. Thank
goodness for color-catchers and dryers and -oh, yes- electric machines!!

I think many of us have a "routine" that we follow before we get around to cutting our fabrics.

I do feel sorry for the newbies that get so many conflicting responses when they ask those questions. It would be so much simpler for them if everyone said "Always do thus and so - - - - "

Fabric Galore

I treat my fabric as I would the finished quilt. I wash it on delicate and machine dry it on low. I use spray starch and iron it before I cut out my quilt but I do not iron it if I am going add it to my stash. I never use fabric softener because it can cause yellow spots if the fabric is stored for a while. Especially here in Florida.

I do pre-wash almost all of my fabric, and when we still lived in our house, I would toss it in the dryer after washing, then take it out before fully dry, then iron. If I can't get to the washing machines in the bldg. I have been known to wash fabric in the tub, hang it in the bathtub, then iron it in the morning. I had given the fabric to a friend when we had to move and I had to purge, but since it was a large piece, she set it aside for me. When I asked if I could get it back, she said absolutely, however, she neglected to tell me that she had stored it in her bedroom where her significant other smoked. I had no choice but to wash it, as I had to get the quilt to the family reunion and as it was, I was a day late. I try to be better about time scheduling but we'll see. I only have to finish two baby quilts for twins born in April (well), then make a quilt for my girl friend who gave me all her daughter's American Girl collection when she left it behind. Because she had to sell the house, when she mentioned the American Girl, I asked if I could barter with a queen size quilt and she agreed. What was I thinking. I know what I was thinking, having a great Christmas with out DGD Zoe, she just turned 6 and likes her American Girl doll. So it was a hit, now I need to finish the bedding for the hand made cradle and make some doll clothes for this Christmas. This is what I do in my spare time, no wait, I don't have any spare time. LOL.

I wash and dry all my fabrics before sewing.
Flannels get washed and dried twice for maximum shrinkage
then I fold and iron as I use them. No starch.

Reba'squilts

Wash, dry, put away. Starch and iron before cutting. I use the go cutter and it seems to work a little better for me if it is starched.

I always wash, dry and iron fabric. Can't stand the smell of the sizing and chemicals. Then it goes into my stash for use.
