I like rail fence. Your focus there is on sewing a consistent seam and cutting accuratly. I think that is enough skills to practice for a new quilter.

Look up Missouri Star Quilt Company. They have several really easy beginner video tutorials on there. The dot to dot looks so easy that is my next project. I am also a newbie.In fact I haven't finished anything except wall hanging yet.

I think BQ may mean a quilt patteren company....maybe referring to Big Quilt Blocks....not really sure...on page 3 of this thread was a referrance to the BQ.....but it could mean Beginner Quilter....or even Baby Quilt....would be nice if it was expalained....especially if you are new to quilting....I'm no expert but I would like to know what they mean too.....:-)....I is confussed....

I also think the nine patch is a good beginner just because you are to work on getting your seems to match...and if you learn the method of pressing to the inner or outtie....it can help...it gets you ready for the next step in quilting...but most important have fun and enjoy....hope you do...the ladies and gentlemen are here to help if need be....

I am fairly new myself I made the nine patch and it was very easy.
I have made one throw and twelve more blocks. This site is a great place to get answers. I love reading the comments. Thanks to all.

When you find your pattern, Break it down to smaller parts. ( ie make 4, 6, 8, etc. sections of the quit first, then put them all together.) Happy sewing.

I also think short stacks is an easy pattern that uses fat quarters.

Start with a small quilt for yourself, and pick the fabrics you really like. This way you will finish the quilt.
Lots of pattern ideas, and really nice when you have an internet address for a pattern
