That is the nice thing about the Berninas, they hold their value. I think the 440 is the Aurora models and the new line replaces the Artista line, but I might be wrong.
So, your dealer gave you the warranty extention correct? Because Bernina doesn't transfer warranties on used machines. This is always a bit risky in that if your dealer closes their doors you're no longer covered:

So $3200 for the 440 WITHOUOT the embroidery module? That's no deal at all, that's full MSRP.

The 500 series is replacing the Aurora line and will be announced at BU this month.

I paid about that for my machine, brand new, with the embroidery module. Mine was "on sale" - but still, I would expect a better price.

I agree that's no bargain. That was the non-sale price around here recently. I got my 440 with BSR but no embroidery used for $1900. Only a one year warranty with the dealer, but lessons included. I'm glad I saved that $$$. If I were looking now, I'd wait for the 500 series to come out. I WAS waiting, but then I got an 820 :)

That doesn't sound like a buy to me. If it's been used you shouldn't have to pay full price. More like 1/2 that makes more sense to me.

If that is without the embroidery module that is NOT a good price for a floor model 440. I bought a 440 a year and a half ago, brand new, no embroidery for $3,000.

The 440 is a nice machine, though I don't really understand why Bernina made a machine supposedly geared towards quilters with such a small throat space. A few more inches really would make all the difference in the world.

Unfortunately I no longer have that 440. I traded up to the new 820 and have been unhappy ever since. :(

My LQS was allowed to sell some of the machines from the sewing Expo. They came with full Warranty and the BSR. I paid $3000.00. (Nov. 2010) I can get the embroidery for another $1000.00.

Rachel, if your 820 isn't working properly, work with your dealer to get it fixed! That's too much to spend for a machine that isn't making you happy.
