Ok, I know there have been numerous topics about which sewing machines everyone uses. I presently have a Janome Harmony 8080 and am looking at upgrading.

I went in today to the local fabric/bernina dealer and because it was the big sale weekend I figured I would take a look at the Bernina 440QEwith BSR. Well from what I saw I really like it but I want to ask you all a question or two:

If you have this machine can you:

    1) tell me what your likes are about it

    2) tell me what you dislike about the machine

I only have until the 17th (Monday) to make the decision to buy it at the sale price with no payments or interest for a year. I would really appreciate any insight you can give me about the Bernina 440QE and your experiences.

    Thanks so much.

Debbie, I have the Bernina and I do like it a lot. I have to admit I prefer my Pfaff for piecing my quilts though because it has the built in even feed. I use the Bernina primarily for quiting. I love the stitch regulator. I can turn the speed down to where I can manage it.
The BSR still takes practice to learn. I'm getting better with each quilt. I have to admit that I was disappoint when I worked with it the first few times. You know how you have it in your mind that you'll sit down and whip out the worlds most gorgeous quiltting! Ha! It's still work!
If I were to buy a new machine today I think I'd go check out what Pfaff has first. I am a real Pfaff lover! But I'm not giving my Bernina away either!!! It does what it was designed to do and it does it quite well!
There, I've circled around your questions without answering them quite nicely, I think!

No frame. Just sitting in it's little sewing cabinet behaving itself! (I hope)

When I'm quilting I just scrunch everything until I can get to where I want to work and then let it fly! Sometimes I like what I get and sometimes I have to "frog" it! Practice is helping.

I am getting a Grace frame for hand quilting. I am so impatient with the delivery people. I want it now!! I hates waiting, don't you?

Thanks for all the advice and comments on the Bernina. I decided to wait it out until Christmas and hope for a good sale then.

I really am planning on getting it but I decided it would be best to wait a few more months.
