New Point: I have both and I don't like the 57 because I tend to butt my fabric against it which doesn't give me the scant 1/4 that works best for me. Sometimes, if I am not careful, that foot results in "La GRAND 1/4 inch." I find the 37 where I can see if I am "shoving" the sewing to the side too much as it peeks out, is the best foot for my use. I NEVER use the 57 anymore since I have found I have this problem. Test Drive both is good advice! And take some of your own scraps so it will be a true test.

Please check with a reputable Bernina dealer about using the #57 with a 9mm stitch width machine. I worked for a Bernina dealer when the 630-640's first came out & at that time Bernina recommended NOT TO USE the #57 foot as the guide blade could cause excessive wear to the teeth on the feed dogs. This may have changed by now, but it is definitely worth checking on.

I've only used the 37 but I'm going to try the advice about the 20 with the needle clicked over one notch.

I have both of them. And I have to say that I use my 57 all the time. I wouldn't do piecing without it. But I do have to say that I use my 37 quite a bit as well.

The prices are about right. And I wouldn't use anything but genuine feet with your machine. You paid a lot of money for it and I wouldn't want anything to happen.

There is a tiny 1/4" mark on my Activa's needle plate. I GUIDE the fabric using that mark, rather than pushing the fabric against my 57 foot.

You spent alot of money on your machine (I also have a Bernina) the worst thing you can do to your machine besides dropping it is to cheap out on thread-generic feet-bobbins- needles etc. Those things will ruin your machine a penny saved is not worth the price of repair.
