Default Bernina 710 versus Juki TL-2010

Any thoughts on this for someone who just wants to do P&Q....straight stitching only with the occassional fmq.

If you are going to do straight stitching and the occasional FMQ, you can't go wrong with the Juki. It's a no nonsense mechanical machine, with a 9 in. x 6 in. harp. Much less expensive than the Bernina. I've had mine for 3 years, and have done many, many quilts on it.

But if your projects will involve decorative stitches, or if you sew garments with buttonholes, if you need zig-zag stitches, etc., the Bernina will do all that for you + it has all the quilting functions. It's computerized and price is higher than the Juki.

Love my Juki 2010Q. Quilts like a dream! Less than $1000.

Thanks for the opinions...appreciated. I own a 710, thought it would be my "forever" machine but after 2 years I'm just not that thrilled with it to be honest. I have just had a look at the Juki TL-2010 and it really appeals to me.....I don't need all the whizz bang computer thingys and stitches the Bernina has, I just want a reliable, no fuss piecing and quilting machine and the Juki has all the features I want.

In that case, you'll be happy with the TL-2010.

Keep the Bernina. You might decide to try crazy quilting and will want the stitches.

I tend to use my Juki exclusively, but I can also piece on the Pfaff 2170 if I have the Juki set up for FMQ.

I've also used a serpentine stitch on the Pfaff for narrow sashing. Repair stressed areas of quilting with zig zag stitch.
