Is this Bernina 880 Plus a good deal?

It's a really great machine! Lots of tech that's amazing when you learn how to use it. Bernina is having a sale that starts today. All high end machines (including the B880) are 20% off MSRP. MSRP is $14,999. 20% off is $11,999. Usually your Bernina dealer will be much lower than 20% off with their every day price. $9,000 is pretty good, with all the other stuff you're getting with it.
The price for a service will vary, depending on where you live. At our local shop, it's still $69.95 for a full service.
Bernina requires their dealers to give at least 1 year of free service, an in-depth class and support. The warranty is 20 years on the main parts and circuit boards are covered for the first 5 years.
It's important to get the firmware updates when they are available. The 880 has had at least 10 updates since it first came out.

It's very important which dealer you use for maint and repair. One Bernina shop charges $249 for maint on the high end Berninas. One in the next town charges $175. When I asked why the difference I was told because the tech had exclusive training and his work was guaranteed longer but the part warranty wasn't. ? I quit buying from dealers a long time ago anyway. If I'm not guaranteed a return then it's bye bye. Too many gently used machines available to buy for much less.

I also have a friend who got that model and has had a lot of bobbin problems. I love my Berninas, but this model must have issues. My friend’s machine finally got sent back to the Bernina headquarters for fixing.

This is what happened to my friend. The bobbin has issues and the dealer kept saying user error and getting mad at my friend for insisting it wasn't her fault. It was finally determined a sensor was bad from the beginning. No one in the guild will buy from this dealer now. Her shop is struggling because of it.

I have the 880 and love it. My only problem is when taking it in for service, it weighs a ton. I am older and need help to lift it to the cart and am unable to lift it into the car. Otherwise I think $9000 is a bargain.

Sewpink - curious if you made a decision about the 880? Have you learned anything since you posted? I have seen them selling on the used market for 7 or 8, so 9 for a new one may be a decent price, especially with a table. The table itself is probably fairly pricey. Have fun shopping and testing.
