Hi, Jennifer -- I had an Artista 180 which I purchased new in 1999. I never had a minute's trouble with it. I had it serviced every year and I used it frequently. It was a very good machine, and I'd probably still be sewing on it except that I got that new-machine-it is last year and bought a Bernina 580! It would probably be a good idea if you could have the machine checked out, check the number of hours it's been used, and all that. My experience with the 180 was positive and I sorta wish I'd kept it as a back-up machine. Good luck! Betty

I also had the 180 and really liked it. I upgraded to the 830. Berninas are wonderful sewing/embroidery machines. Bebe2Ten has some good advise - have the machine checked out by a sewing machine dealer - they can then tell you if it has any issues. Check on-line to see what feet/hoops, etc should come with it so you get everything it came with. These are good dependable machines. Good luck! My backup machine is now a Bernina 350 - like it too!

I have a Bernina 180 that I have had for a number of years. I got it new when the 200's came out. It has been a workhorse and it is still great. It does beautiful embroidery! Go for it if it checks out to have no problems. I would love to have a newer Bernina, but the new ones don't get the good reviews that the older machines got.

I have a 180 and have had it since it was new (2000?) I love it. I do all sorts of sewing with it and have made everything from drapes to clothing to quilts with it. I, too, get it serviced often and have had very few problems with it. I'd have the machine checked out and sew on it a bit myself. If it checks out go for it, I don't think you'll ever be sorry.
