Connecting Threads and Missouri Star Quilts are my "go to" places for fabric online. I also try to support the local quilt shops in my area. Sometimes the local shops have great deals in a clearance section, and often run sales!

Green Fairy has some pre-cuts, low shipping too.

EQuilters.com is another great place for online fabric buying.

I agree: Missouri Star Quilt Company, Fat Quarter Shop or any quilt shop. Also, if you go to a quilt show and sometimes price may be reduced. Have Fun!

Welcome from central MI. Online I shop at Missouri Star Quilt, Connecting Threads, Marshall Dry Goods most of the time & a few others mentioned occasionally. Also I shop at our local Amish fabric shop & our other local quilt shop.
Also this group is the best for advice on quilting & sewing. They are always here to help if they can. Have fun with your new hobby & good luck at the shows.

If you are going to sell items, you must think long and hard about the cost of your fabric. You can not purchase regular price from anyone and make a profit - period. You might find a special focus fabric and buy just what is needed for the project and then fill in with 'regular' fabrics. You should spend a day going over fabric options and noting where and what to buy. Then watch for a deal (sale, coupon, free shipping if online). You also need to make one of the items from start to finish and time it. This will give you an idea of what to add to the materials cost. Then price what your area will accept. I know this sounds like a bit of work, but, if you want to make money (whether just to cover costs or to make a profit), you need to look at it in a business fashion. As mentioned by another post, you should also think outside the box. Often you can find fabric at thrift stores, you can use low thread count sheets for backings on quilts, you can use flannel or some blankets as batting in quilts. Think about where you can cut cost but not hurt the quality of your product. Good luck - and have fun with it!

Some of the prettiest fabric I have bought was at yard sales. Look at clothing made from 100% cotton and it is dirt cheap. I bought a muu-muu in XL at a yard sale that was just the color I was looking for. It cost me $.50 and I used it to make the log cabin sampler in my avatar.
