I'm curious Donna, what does the distilled water do to the mixture? I have been using regular tap water, but if I need to, I can start using distilled. Thanks

My guild uses this recipe & it's great, not starch but adds lots of body to anything you're pressing. 1 gallon of distilled water, remove one cup of water, add 1 cup of the cheapest vodka you can buy, add 21 drops of lavender oil, shake well. Fill spray bottle and use to press. We make this stuff by the gallon and refill everyone's spray bottle whenever. Everyone swears by it. Cheap to make & works great.

I ran out of the commercial Best Press on the w/e and mixed up a batch of my own: 1 cup vodka, 2 cups water, 1/2 cup liquid starch and 1/4 cup Freebrez for some scent. I was pressing two pieces of fabric for a backing and one was done with the commercial Best Press and I did the other with the mixture I made - I had my husband blind test them for feel - he liked the stuff I made and it was so much cheaper than the Best Press The added liquid starch will help with cutting of pressed fabric and also when sandwiching and FMQ my quilts. Thanks ladies!
