From the Aleene's website there are 3 Tacky Sprays but only 1 for fabric and it is permanent. So definitely not the same as basting spray. I like 505 best - found a bargain on Dritz basting spray but I did not like quilting through it.
Hope you can get the gunk off SBG!

What I was using was Aleene's Tacky Spray.

which to me, sounds much stronger adherence and a different chemical composition
than a temporary basting spray.
It's nice to seek out alternative products,
but sometimes it is best to stay with those created for the intended use.

I couldn't find the Un-Du at Walmart so I bought something else that looked as good. It's called Goof Off. It worked like magic! I just drizzled it on the sticky parts and then stuffed a little cotton swatch in to clean. All the junk came off. It seemed to dissolve the sticky stuff on contact, first try. Great stuff!
So, I can quilt again! Thanks for your help with my problem, everyone who responded.

Yes! Goof Off has a very strong fume and is very flammable. You should try not to breathe it. But it worked wonders. I don't like Goo Gone because you have to scrub and scrub, and then do it again. It's not strong enough.
