Instead of using a board, that can weigh too much, I use the 4” wide, flat piece to a curtain hanger set that was holding the valances in my home when I bought it. You might find one in a hardware or drapery store. If you look at the end of the piece I used it looks like a stretched out flattened “C” (which fit into the original side support pieces). I can hang a lap size quilt by putting the metal strip inside the sleeve, facing away from the quilt. I can put three or more push pins into the wall and put the top of the “C” shaped piece over the push pins. Everything hangs straight, and even as long as my push pins are level.

I use the curtain rod also; the kind that slides into each other to change the length. You know; the ones like you threw into the dumpster 10 years ago. LOL I have the really strong (really expensive) magnets on the wall and the curtain rod holds up the quilt. So much easier to change out a quilt. The curtain rod gets longer or shorter as needed.

Screw some eye hooks on the end of your board and use nails.

If the clips are working right now, I would cut some leaf shapes out of the foliage fabric from your scraps and stick them over the clips.

I have put triangles in the corners at the top, bottom and middle and hung three yard sticks or boards or curtain rods then hang those on the command hooks. the triangles with the stick or rod helps to keep the sides from bowing.

I think a curtain rod or piece of doweling would be a better choice. I use curtain rods and just put a couple nails about 1/2" apart at each end and rest the curtain rod on it.

I have used a curtain rod and regular curtain rod holders. If the quilt is heavy, you might have to put one or two additional holders along the rod, and for those you need a large buttonhole in the sleeve so that the holder can get in under the rod.

One the other hand, I sure like the idea Peckish has.

The best thing I've found is a number of the command hooks with the velcro fasteners. Not only do they not mark the wall, but changing to the size of a current wall hanging is a snap. I simply baste the other side of velcro strip to the quilt back and remove when display time is over.
