I always use 2" or sometimes 1.75" but I do the final step by hand. Even if you were doing it by machine if you used the glue method I think you might be ok.

I think so much depends on the loft of the batting....if it's fairly thin, the 2" strips will work fine. I would also hand stitch the binding down on the back.....all of the other suggestions are good.....I think you should be fine...

I agree, a 2 Inch binding looks great.

I used to use 2.5 but found it to be too large when I turned it to the back to hand stitch. So I went to 2.25 and that seems to work best for me. I use a 1.4 inch seam to attach the binding to the front of my quilts. I double mine so they will last longer. Most of my quilts have been for the younger generation so figured they'd be dragging it around.

I am routinely a 2 1/4 inch girl, but I have used two before and it has worked fine.

The only problem I have found with 2 inch bindings is that they tend to wear faster over time. I started out making baby quilts with warm and natural batting and 2 inch edges. As baby items get washed more often, I noticed by the time little sister was born, big brother's binding was tattered. I put a new binding on his favorite quilt, but have since used the 2 1/2 inch binding. The looseness puts less stress on the fabrick IMHO.

I prefer 2 inch binding, makes for a tighter edge. However, if your material is heavy, I cannot see why you couldn't use it single. Please let us know how it turns out. Happy New Year.

I prefer to use 2.5" strips for binding, but 2" is also OK, it just makes a slightly narrower binding and should look just as good.

I usually use 2-1/4", but on my last quilt, the batting was so thin, even doubled and with a full 1/4" seam, the binding was a lot wider on the back than on the front. Gonna try 2" on the next one.

I cut mine at 2 1/4 but I think 2" would work. You may have to tug it back a little tighter and pin so you can cover the stitching.
