I like to sew it to the back and then wrap it around to the front and machine stitch it. It comes out they way I like it and I don't have to hand stitch. If I have to hand stitch, the quilt will drag forever.

Front to back and handstitched down on most of my quilts.
The back to front ones are kid and charity quilts and they get zig zaged down by machine, it looks good and it much quicker. May in Jersey

I like front to back. I do the machine stitch on things like baby quilts that will get "destroyed" and quilts I am not being fussy about. I just cannot get the binding to look good , to me, if I machine stitch it down

Been said before, but I stitch to back first, turn to front and top stitch close to edge. I use the color thread that best matches the backing for the bobbin thread. The key to getting all of this really, really even is to trim the quilt edges accurately (very even), and make sure the binding tape is cut and pressed very accurately, the rest is just following the edges with your chosen seam allowance. Top stitching on the top gives a nice finish on the quilt top whichis the most seen of course.:D
