    Default Binding question for circle

I have a Christmas tree skirt ready to bind. Any advise for binding? I have never done a circle. Thanks.

There really isn't much difference in binding a curved edge and binding a straight edge. I use bias binding for the stretch, and I don't pin or glue. I keep adjusting the fabrics so that the edge of the curve and the edges of my binding are aligned. Depending on the curve, you may have to sew a few stitches, then lift the presser foot to adjust the fabric, and you may need to sew a little slower. The bias will give you that stretch you need to go smoothly around the curve.

I agree, you want to use bias binding for curves. It will lay much flatter.

When I am binding a circular project, I usually run a couple of "basting" lines around the item, one at the 5/8" seam line and another about 1/4 inch inside the seam line. The basting lines make it easier to ease the bias binding around the project, without those awful tucks. As long as the basting is loose, it is very easy to remove after you've finished the binding.

That's a great idea. Sounds like what you'd do to ease a sleeve in a top. I will also use binding on the bias. Thanks to everyone.
