Have done lots of friendship quilts with the signatures using several different colors of Pigma pens. Absolutely no problems if the fabric has been prewashed with no fabric softeners added. After all the signing is completed you should press again - very important step. It is called heat setting the ink. Washing afterwards is OK - recommend cold water and Orvus paste for detergent.

I have used both pigma pens and ink jet printers without any problems. I just make sure I do the washing of fabric before and the heat set after. I also just use regular detergent on all of my quilts with fabric softener.
