Thanks all for the input!

Ok, black it is. I always second guess myself on these things but I've never had anyone say anything negative about "black in a children's quilt???" Nice thing is I have plenty of black yardage and this will be all from my stash.

When I do the setting X squares, I'll make them so the arrow points that don't connect to anything on the outer edge of the sashing will be black. Then maybe just a 4" solid black border (the sashing rows will be 4") so the design will float and the binding will pop. Shouldn't take long to put this together, will post a picture when the top is done.

I would NOT use the white. I leave me feeling like she ran out of fabric. The black continues the theme and shows off the pattern of the blocks.

There is nothing wrong about black in a baby's quilt. As long as it has bright colors the baby will love it.

I get plenty of requests for black & white baby quilts, as apparently contrast is the first thing a baby's eyes sees. Love the colors of this quilt with the black and it will be perfect for a baby.

I used the large print fabric for a stack and whack quilt and actually used orange as the background fabric.

Wow Deb that is gorgeous! When I saw the scraps I knew the piece had all sorts of potential, sadly there just wasn't much left for me. I was thrilled to get the 12 squares cut.

I'm finishing up some sail boat blocks today but hope to cut the solids for the sashing today or tomorrow, hope to have the top pieced (and posted) before next Tuesday so I can show it to the lady who gave me the scraps.
