synthropol is a laundry additive that will keep fugitive dyes from getting on other clothes...in other words, if you have a fabric that bleeds the synthropol will keep that 'bleeding dye' from adhering to what ever else is in the wash. it does not actually set color. best to wash them, dry them, heat set, then run cold water through and check to see if it still bleeds. just keep washing the fabric with your normal detergent until there is no more running colors.
not all batiks are created equal...some do not bleed at all, or very very little...others seem to never stop. if you have one that never stops use it for something that isn't going to be needing washed.
