Your photos show a blind hem. Look for a ladder stitch... or the reverse of a ladder stitch to achieve a machine blanket stitch. :mrgreen:

I guess I don't have a blanket stitch, this is the stitch I use for applique. I have another stitch like this except the > goes to the right.

if it's close enough, it would still work for applique. just set it to a lower number.
