Why no PP'd or applique? Raw edge applique is easy peasy and gives a great texture to the quilt - I especially love doing it with batiks, since they are so tightly woven, as a rule, so the frayed edges give texture without worrying that they will fray so much they'll fall off. Quilters Cache has a pattern called Valentine or Valentines - you could do that with raw edge applique and it would be spectacular! And speaking of Quilters Cache, if you check out the site, Marcia has lots of simple paper-pieced designs, read her tutorial and then try a block or two - it's the only way I can guarantee that points match and everything lines up like it's supposed to! I hope you find the perfect pattern and show us pictures when you're done.

Do you not like applique? It's so easy. I've made a few "heart" quilts using applique. I don't know how to paper piece just yet, but am taking a class on it at craftsy.
