Could someone please explain to me about the difference in bobbin thread and regular thread for quilting?.. TIA

I look forward to seeing the explanations. I bought Bottom
Line bobbin thread on the recommendation of several experienced quilters but I don't remember if they really explained why they use it. I do know that it is a much finer thread therefore there is more on the bobbin so it doesn't have to be changed as often. I would imagine with machine quilting that, because it is finer, it would show less on top if your tension isn't just right.

I have never tried one of the prewound bobbins so hope someone gives us some information on those--what kind of machines they work well with and don't work with. Any other benefits besides not having to wind bobbins.

I have used the pre-wound and like them because there is more thread on them.

The thread is thinner and you can get more of it onto a bobbin :D:D:D

I've used the prewound bobbins, my only complaint is, I have the darnest time finding the end thread....

Bobbin weight threads are typically 60wt, so thinner than what we use to quilt with (typically). The main reason people favor them when quilting is because more thread fits on the bobbin, therefore less starting and stopping.

Saying that, you can quilt with anything, in both the upper thread and in the bobbin. Some people like 100wt silk for intricate quilting, while others prefer a very chunky 17wt thread for high definition.

The thinner thread is great if you don't want the thread to show much on the back but don't forget, when snuggling in your masterpiece, you'll see the back, too, so I ofter use a thread you'll enjoy seeing. Like when quilting a snowflake design, I'll use sparkling thread in the bobbin.

I use the 60wt bobbin thread for embroidery so it doesn't build up under my design. I have never used it for quilting as I like at least 50 wt for regular sewing and quilting.

thread that is (marketed) as 'bobbin' thread is generally a thinner thread than what you may use for sewing- 60wt or higher (the higher the wt- the thinner the thread)
that way you get alot more thread on the bobbin and do not have to change bobbins as often- less starts/stops.
i have used bobbin thread for sewing before- it is a strong thread...nice and fine.
