Bobbin Winder Cs6000i goes in spurts
Hello, while attempting to wind a bobbin today, I found that the bobbin winder was hesitant and just went in rhythmic spurts. I checked placement and threading, and checked for threads hung underneath. It looks like everything is okay, except for that winder acting like that. I'm thinking of getting a sidewinder because the machine works okay other than that. I wonder if next time I should just go for a sturdy mechanical with about 6 types of stitches. I have a feeling I'm not the only one with this issue, but my experience is scant. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

You need to check out the reviews on Amazon. I wanted a bobbin winder due to both of my Pfaff machine bobbin winders not working properly. However, the reviews are pretty bad. Someone spoke of a bobbin winder which was more expensive on this board, but I don't remember the name to provide you with a link. Maybe someone else will know the one I'm talking about. It is not a mass produced one.

When any of my machines have any trouble with winding bobbins, it is usually that the thread is hanging on something while coming off the spool. I've even had the thread break.

I have no problem with my Sidewinder. The first thing I noticed it was too lightweight and kept tipping over or moving when winding a bobbin. I put a heavy piece of metal I found in DH's shop inside it. It's hollow inside the housing. It made a big difference.

Yes, that's the link I was referring to. I would have ordered it myself, if the price was a bit more reasonable. Looks like a nice one, and people who have purchased it seem happy with it.
As for the cheaper Simplicity ones, it appears from reading many reviews, that the older ones were made better and people were happy with them. However the ones made in the last five years or so, are made cheaper and people are not as happy with them. Also, people with Pfaffs size L bobbins and some Viking machines will have problems with them.
Amazon also has some $52 price point winders, but reviews for those are all over the place as well. That's an acceptable price point if they worked well.
Maybe someone who has purchased one of the cheaper Simplicity winders in the last few years will chime in with their experience and state what kind of machine they bought it for.

is it possible there is thread hung up that is catching on the bobbin winder? Reason I ask as I saw recently a photo that someone showed of their machine with the cover off and a huge nest of thread had somehow gotten hung up and was going into the machine cover. She said she knew she had a problem when she couldn't wind a bobbin.

Thank you all for your answers and suggestions, and for the welcome! I checked the things that were suggested, and still seems that the winder is broken. I see that the sidewinder on Amazon boasts free returns, so I'm going to try it. Come to think of it, this machine's winder has been giving me trouble on and off for a while. And on the Amazon page for this machine (Brother CS 6000i) a lot of people said their winder broke. Thanks everyone!
