Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt
#31
I've done CS and Easy Street as well as Lazy Sunday from Quiltmaker's magazine. Looking forward to the new one. I'm thinking about using brown, dk. green, blue and dk. red. We'll see...Every quilt I make, regardless of the pattern seems so bright...I have to get away from those vibrant colors that I seem to love! And evidently I love aqua/teal because except for CW quilts, every quilt has that color in it!

Christine: You actually made two CS? Even though I love the quilt, I was so done when I finished the first one. Like your color choice for the first one, feels like a late autumn afternoon, lovely quilts. LilaKay: Thanks for the heads up. If I go with her colors may actually have to buy fabric. Those colors are really depleted in my stash, since they are being used in other quilts. What's everyone's take on the colors? You guys have done a great job on substituting colors. I may start by getting the recommended paint sample colors then think about substitutes .

After seeing Bonnie's colors....which I love.... I'm changing them up. I have too many quilts with these colors...so its brown, red, green and blue for me. Remember to look thru your scraps...especially 3.5 inch strips.. I generally get a lot of my BH fabrics from scraps. Its the beauty of her scrappy style!

I'm changing the colors a bit too. I think I'll use black instead of yellow, but I'm not sure if I want to go with bright pastels or maybe darker Amish style colors. I guess I'll have to dig through my scraps and play a bit. Isn't this fun?

Nilla: Did you notice she is already using 2.25 yds of black in her pattern? I pulled the colors out of my solids just to see how they play together. Even though pink has never been one of my favorites, used with so much black, it may really change the pallet.

I'm not sure what color I'll use instead of her black. I might just really switch things up and see what I get, maybe even use a neutral as a color and a color as a neutral. The good thing about her quilts is that the pattern itself is good so although the overall look might change a lot, I think it will still look nice, and since I do them for fun anyway, I'm okay with that. One of the things I love about her show and shares is seeing the same pattern look so different because of color changes.

This is one of the reasons my stash is so low on the BH colors. I am participating in another mystery, no colors specified, just light, med and dark. I used this fabric for color inspiration, just going through my stash and choosing colors that matched.
