Border size
I made a quilt with 1 1/2 “ sashing between blocks vertically and 1 1/2” sashing horizontally. What size border? The sashing inside the blocks is 1/2 “.

I typically frame the quilt with the same size sashing then add a wider border based on the size of quilt I want. The exception to size is unless the border fabric has more design I want to show and therefore dictates the width of the border. (I.e.; large flowers etc.). It be helpful to see your quilt to offer suggestions.

how large are the blocks? usually at least the same size as blocks looks great. or if large blocks, border can be 1/3 or 1/2 the width of blocks. depends on how large you need your quilt.

I like my borders to be about 2 or 2.5 times larger than the sashings. And if I make them very large (over 4") then I definitely like to see a pieced border instead of just fabric, or a stunning print, applique, etc.

I just made a little quilt with 2" sashings. I made the border 2.5" and I think it looks good. Try laying your fabric out and put the unbordered quilt on it. Then you can play with different sized borders before cutting anything.

I do the same thing that Teen does - frame the entire quilt with the sashing. Then I add a very narrow stop border, then a border that's usually at least twice as wide as the sashing. Would love to see a picture!
