I sew them together first. You just have to make sure the
    seams match.

I sew multiple borders together to form one border and then sew it on the quilt. For me this is the best and quickest method. But...whatever works for you and is in your comfort zone is what is best for you.

Kappy, I do hand stitching and I always sew the sides of my borders on after I do the entire top. After that, I sew on the top and bottom borders...

I triedn it sewing them together, but they don't come out as perfect frame's so I won't do it again.. to much work to take it out...

I finish the top of my quilt and then sew the binding on the sides. This is so the head and foot of the quilt binding edges are stitched
    over the side bindings...

I do round corners on all my quilts. I sew all the strips together and away I go. I thing the round corners are classy. Karen Sue

I do it all the time then design corner blocks that join the borders, like a partial log cabin block. I quilt the body of the quilt without borders, then add the border section, batting and backing and quilt the borders. I'm diong the quilting on my dsm, so this works because it reduced the size of the quilt that you have to manhandle. This is how I did my avatar. Can you tell that the bottom corners are separate blocks?
