The one I just made I used the iron on fleece. It's very thin. The handles were pretty easy to sew with this type. I used it everywhere instructed except the lining pieces. The lady at the quilt store said to do it this way so it's not so thick.

I think I used only half of what they said to use in the pattern.

That's what I did...It made it so much easier to sew through.

I think you use the 987F Pellon fusible, not the craft pellon, that stuff is way thicker. I made that mistake the first time I did a bag and found myself cramming it into the machine it was so thick.

So now I use the 987F Pellon and put a layer of shirt-tailer interfacing on the pieces too. It makes it a little thicker but not too thick. For the handles I just use the 987F no other interfacing.

I hate a bag that doesn't stand up when you put it down, so that's why I like a little bit of stiffness in all my bags.

I agree with you about a purse that will not stand up, the bow tuck bag has such wonderful pockets. The next one I am going to put a zipper in to see how it looks.

I read a hint that to make the handle for bags to use non-roll elastic and just cover it and top stitch and makes a great handle so am going to try that on next bag.
