The problem is that it is not only the fabrics going up but also our fixed and variable overhead expenses; Utilities, Insurance, Rent, etc. I bought fabric in January, bought the second series of the same line and paid 50-75 cents per yard more in June. I have been trying to hold my prices but when shipping costs me 25-75 cents per yard in addition to the fabric increases it is very difficult. I'm not sure how long I can keep my shop open at these levels. Thanks for listening. OzarksGma

I was looking at the latest Connecting Threads catalogue yesterday, and their same prices are still holding up. I can see where I might be shopping exclusively from them if this keeps up. I can't see how any but the wealthiest of us will be able to make large quilts if we must pay that much per yard for the fabrics. And then, most of us give them all away. It's like giving away a bag of gold!

Even SALE prices in Australia don't go that low! :
Was in a quilt shop in town last week and their $10 fabric wasn't worth buying. Two washes and you would have been able to "shoot peas through it" as my grandmother would have said about thin fabric that wasn't worth buying.

All the other fabric was $25 per metre, with Moda solids at $28 per metre, and a few bolts at $35 per metre. FQ's were $7 EACH, and fat eighths $3.50! Won't be going back there again.

Spotlight has fabric for $14 upwards, but rarely have what I want.

since Walmart is closing out the fabric dept. Joanns has raised all their prices, now when it is on sale (like this weekend) you are paying the regular old price for it, not a happy camper was I, so online shopping is what i look at lately

Have a look at 'Thousands of Bolts'. I've had great service from them to here NW of Toowoomba. From memory, I think it was about $11.95 postage for 6 yards.

The fabrics have been 7.50 to 9.50 for a while now and even some 10.00. I have so much fabric, it's not going to bother me one bit and hubby should be grateful ahahahahah..that I had the forsight for years to stock up.

My LQS has three sales a year at 40% off and I wait for those and only buy then if I have to....

You're lucky you have coupons, they don't exist over here - apart from the pizza places and other fast food chains.

About as much hope of that happening as winning the lottery two weeks in a row!

And that sounds like a fun challenge.
