I love my Brother machines. Three very basic cheapy dinky mechanicals. They sew through anything, take any kind of thread, don't balk when they need to be cleaned out, never have had a tension issue. I always get my feelings hurt on their behalf when I hear anything negative about them.

I have a little Project Runway Limited Edition that I purchased at my LQS for less than $300. I piece all my quilt tops on it, but since I hand quilt have never tried it for that. It is light weight enough to carry to classes and has more fancy stitches than I will ever use. I am very pleased with it.

Brother makes all ranges of quality machines. The dealer sold Brothers are the highest quality. Just remember the chain store machines can sew great but you aren't buying Brother's quality. I have the Brother 1500 and it has been loaned out to many friends trying it out for fmqing. Even when used by many different people it still works great. Not much to go wrong with it other then actually breaking the thing in pieces.

As far I'm concern I will give the Brother sewing Machine An A+, I got mine since 1983, a simple math, 2013, 30 years.
I never had a problem, I still got the original Manual, it's so easy to understand. I oiled Myself, but I send it out for a very
good tune up and clean the some of the lints I've missed. This machine created an Award Winning Quilts, a lot of them!
If they make the same machine (which I doubt, not much metal today, its mostly plastic) I highly recommend it. I would like to have the new one of course. Don't judge the machine by the price tag. the most important, is your comfort!
