The mallet wasn't a joke??? There really is such a tool??? :shock: :lol: I thought it was only good for tough meat?

I had to laugh at using the mallet to pound it down...but, hey, if it works...go for it! Seriously, and I am not sure it would work in this particular situation...I have always been told told that when I get to a place where my seams are bulky and going in the same direction, to do a little clipping in near the middle where the bulk is. You would clip from the outer edge of the seam allowance into and just shy of your stitching line...then, once it is free, press that seam in the oppositie direction. I am sorry this is probably not really clear, but it might help.

the green fairy link illustrated what I was trying to show a lot more clearly and well - worth looking at
when unpicking the threads - leave them at least that 1/4 inch that they were so they don't pull out of the seam -

I know it makes for a stronger seam when quilting to have your seams all pressed to the side, but when I am doing something with a lot of points in the midde I open my seams and press flat. Makes a great difference.
