The pics are sideways, but I think you get the idea anyway. I'm making the MSQC strip pieced butterfly quilt, but felt they needed a body. Would you make the body the full height of the block(first pic), or add background at the top and bottom of the body(second pic)? Thank you for any and all opinions.

I like the shorter one best. Butterflies bodies are shorter than their wings so the second picture looks more realistic.
